I'm out of Cottage Grove, so all the areas I know of are down here, but there are a few.

We should do a meet and greet down here sometime. I need some motivation to get mine built!

Sounds good. Just got mine painted today, and should have it up and running this week hopefully. Are you racing off road at all?

No racing for me. I work too much, and family takes up the rest of the time. Should free up considerably in a couple months when my wife finishes school. I *might* go back to school then, not sure yet.

I'm always on the prowl for places to run. I know there are a few places on the "high" side of Dorena lake, and some fun "playing" out near Cottage Grove lake. I know of a few cool places up Brice Creek (above your parents place) but nothing spectactular.

Hit me up anytime you want to go. I need more inspiration to get my scaler done. Besides, I realized I can't fly worth a ****!

I just passed thru your neck of the woods on the way home from the dunes....check out the breakwater barriers at winchestor bay that surround the oyster beds, very cool rocks, huge huge huge and they are palced in a way that it is almost monolithic.....its only 1 hr for you guys to get there.

The entire bay is covered(Lined) in rocks for break water reasons. You could comp/gtg until you died and never use all the area.

Also, the rest area just before Salem if you are heading North has some decent crawling along the banks of the river and under the bridge.

Hotrodvw
01-02-2008, 11:05 PM
I know I've seen the rocks by the river at the rest area.......good idea!

Hey I'm from springfield and my buddy and I like to go up mcgowan creek at a rock quarry. Also up out of springfield at the mckenzie river bridge on deer horn rd. several miles up the road there is lots of bed rock to crawl on. I have a scaler fj, wk tuber, and a ax-10.

Hotrodvw

Sounds like we need to have a meet and greet for the eugene area people.

I've "wheeled" many times out of winchester. But by far, my FAVORITE place to wheel is at Stone Field Beach, about 15 miles north of Florence. By far the best place I've ever crawled! I think my buddy has some pics, I'll check. Now I usually just run the brushless pede. My wife and daughter don't have the patience for crawling. And a happy wife means a happy life!

Jeff

Hotrodvw
01-04-2008, 04:44 AM
I'm totally down for that. I find it hard to drive over to the coast just to crawl though. I guess I'd have to have a lot to do over there....or, have a decent size group to go with. Let's get something together when the sun comes out.

So I went out to Dorena lake and snapped a few pics for you, seeing as how it may be a while before we can get out there.

Here is the pile I was thinking of.

And a little closer pic.
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/6150/overall2qr4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Looking the "behind" you.
http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/6721/overall3ev6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
One of the MANY piles to play on. The big rocks are all 2-3' tall.
http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/7035/pilefg2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Plenty of spots for mud running if you enjoy that...
http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/8606/mudwg4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
As you can see, its nothing spectactular, but fun none the less. I know of a couple rock quarries that would be fun for crawling, all but one of them are under snow now though.

Now for the obligatory mad flex pic of the DD!

Hotrodvw

I almost didn't recognize it. usually, I'm floating 20 feet above it on the boat. So, is that on the SE side of the lake, or??

We need to find a way to do this indoors. Maybe we can talk Richard @ CG RC to give us a corner. =)

snakeman
01-05-2008, 03:54 AM
Its on the "high" side. Just up from the dam on the north side. Park at "Row Point", and walk the trail down to the lake. I've taken my pede there a few times and had a blast in the creeks. Due to all the rain, they are way up. I couldn't get over to the big pile due to high water.

Jeff

Hotrodvw
01-05-2008, 03:58 AM
Hmm......interesting. I havent been on the east side much. I woonder ( I don't remember) what's available at Baker Bay. I don't recall many rock, but I'm wondering about the camp ground area. When we get a dry day, we need to go!

snakeman
01-05-2008, 05:54 AM
The camp ground doesn't have anything worthy. The other side of the lake is where its at. Even Rat Creek has some stuff. If you have a water proof rig, Rat Creek is hella fun! I'll pull the brushless out of the pede and throw my Mtronics back in and go out.

I've been thinking more and more about getting the scaler build going. Now I need to clean the garage out so I have a place to work. All I need is a few small parts for it and away I go. I will need a good servo sometime soon, I don't trust the bluebirds for much.

I've talked to Richard a few times. He seems interested in crawling, but the racing scene is pretty big through them. I've been meaning to take my BMVII chassis in and see if he wants to buy it. I haven't run it since last april.

If your ever up at the Fairview tower, the rocks there are also primo, just under about 10' of snow right now.....

Brice Creek has a couple good spots. So does Sharps Creek. Up near Mineral camp and up Hartscrabble. (sp?) I have some friends that have a claim up there. I need to go exploring!

I'll be out of town this weekend, but we should go check out a few spots next weekend. I know a few more I've thought about in the past, just never went looking specifically for RC's. I ridden bikes and quads all over around here.

Jeff

This pic shows the SW side (across the lake, you can see the earth part of the dam that everyone fishes off of. Baker bay is to the left of the pic.)

Hotrodvw
01-05-2008, 06:01 AM
So, if we were to pan left in that pic, we'd be in the flats and the river, correct?

snakeman
01-05-2008, 03:07 PM
Panning left you'd see baker bay, and then you'd see the flats and river WAY off in the distance. Its about 1/2 mile up from the dam on the same side as the dam.

Scoot, there are a few fun places, only this time of year the rivers up covering most of the rocky sections. But I'm sure I haven't seen them all by any means.

Jeff

Hotrodvw
01-05-2008, 03:30 PM
Hmm.....I think I'm just looking at this differently. I only see it from the road usually, or I'm on the water. I'd have to go down there. Either way, it looks like there's fun to be had. To me, it would be more fun with dry rocks....otherwise, I can't climb jack

snakeman
01-05-2008, 04:19 PM
AT the bottom, turn left onto the road that climbs up by the bam. After passing the "top" (where you can clearly see the lake) take the second pull off. Should be only 80 feet to the trail (from the road). It is at the end of a small straight section of road w/ a small/long field beside it. It is titled Row Point. Take the trail by the sign, follow it to the lake amd there you are.

These rocks have excelent traction even when wet.

Well, I'm off to the big town. Might return w/ a new (to me) truck. We'll see. I'm wanting a 00' ext cab taco w/ V6. Dang cummins burns too much fuel to dd.....

Fellas, I gotta say......I found a great location. :D Right behind my parent's house on Row River. I took the Ax-10 out there yesterday, it was awesome! I learned quite a bit, and was amazed at where this thing wil go all at the same time. Lots of dry moss covered rocks for added challenge, slick rock, jagged rock, plenty of crevises, verticals, etc...good stuff. Honestly, it was my first time ou ton real rocks! :D

Myself and a friend have wheeled under the covered bridge, and main bridge. Some good areas there, probably better up towards the church camp, we broke before making it that far!

Also some fun stuff just downriver from Sharps creek rd. (drive back down the logging road, and park at the gate and walk to the river.)

I'm getting my AX 10 on wednesday and will be building it asap!
