ok ive had some tuber ideas in my head as general RC builds for more than 10 years..and now that there allowed in scale and ive got straight axles to build with!!! ive got some ponders and ideas that could use some clearing up..mostly regarding shapes styles and points...ive asked some ppl some questions and either gotten no answer, a go for it, or "i dont know" ..soo its time for a post to get it out in the open in general..

lets try and keep an open mind

im going to try and be as "general" and open with the questions as possible as im sure there are other tuber ideas floating around..and im not handing my build onto the chopping block

if i read the rules correctly you could litteraly base a tuber off of a gutted jeep OR all the way down to a sandrail or pretty much anything built from a pile of tubes without even basing it off of a body since your not useing rails and probably useing a miss match of engine, trans, t-case, axles, etc etc..or even a 1:1 bodyless "corr" truck could fall into this cattagory couldt it?.....hell pretty much any race car/truck with its body panels ripped off would fall into this cattagory wouldnt it?

HOWEVER a tuber is only a tuber if it doesnt have frame rails to the back of the door line correct? and doesnt use a "cab"...mikes jeep made me wonder this quite a bit as it was bodied but tubed

now a lil points thinking.....

if your running abs plastic or aluminum or steel panels would that constitute a "hard body"...i mean the rules see them as "body panels".....im kinda 50/50 here....if all the panels are of the same "hard" material thats a hard body as theres nothing to "give"...most tubers ive seen run lexan for the give and slide as well as weight savings..even 1:1's for that matter...at which point do "body panels" asuming there ALL "HARD" constitute a "hard body".....since your "required" to have roof, door, and hood...if you added full panels to the interior tub exterior as well as full sides to the skeleton of the tuber would it then be a "hard body"...maybe some fender tops then?....id love to see where this line sits as far as the 5pts goes

interior..if your "required" to have both seats in a tuber i assume your still going to get the "detailed" interior points yes?..add 2 for a driver(what about a passenger thats weight up there too lol would be nice but i dont see that one happening)

"functional" spare was there ever a final ruleing on what ratio to the height of tires on the rig?..i thought it was agreed that 75% or better but i cant find that on the forums anywhere..alot of scary things are "functional" lol

bumpers....this could get ugly...but what constitutes a bumper....a simple hoop? a sstinger? does it need to extend past the "lenght" of the tires, what about width?...i know ive seen jeeps with little more than a 3 foot wide bar as a bumper and the wheels sticking out even with the said bumper..its the stinger out there thats really being a bumper at that point

"tube frame/exo" id asume a tuber gets these to begin with?...but what about headach rack/ladder rack/roof rack.....me im thinking steel roof panel with raised tubes for fog lights for my build.....but if you have bars behind the driver/passenger with a steel mesh wouldnt that too be a headache rack? since it would keep rocks and crap from hitting said driver in the back of the head...course on most of the scale rigs isnt a in bed roll bar also considered a headache rack?..in which case you really couldnt build a tuber without one

Yes, but you have to have body panels.

A tuber could have frame rails.

This would be decided on from a truck to truck basis. I'd imagine if a rig used tons of metal/plastic to make "hard body-like" panels, so much that it covered most of the tubing (as much as a regular hard body might cover) then you'd probably get the hard body bonus points. Just doing metal or plastic panels however would not get a hard body bonus. It needs to be...vast.

interior..if your "required" to have both seats in a tuber i assume your still going to get the "detailed" interior points yes?..add 2 for a driver(what about a passenger thats weight up there too lol would be nice but i dont see that one happening)

Yes, and points for a driver.

"functional" spare was there ever a final ruleing on what ratio to the height of tires on the rig?..i thought it was agreed that 75% or better but i cant find that on the forums anywhere..alot of scary things are "functional" lol

I think a full-size spare (the same as your rig runs) would get the functional points, where as anything smaller would get 'display' points.

This would be judged on a truck by truck basis. I'd imagine it should probably extend laterally from the frame rails by a bit, and out a bit.

Yes, a tuber gets the tube frame bonus. To get the 'rack' bonus, you'd have to buils an obvious rack on top of the tuber.

I was looking at the tuber rules. My new 2.2 is more tube than it is frame rails in quantity, but in length its 3/4 frame 1/4 tube. Tubers HAVE to have a roof pannel, but 2.2s dont. So do i have to have a roof? Id prefer to not have one, but i dont know which category mine falls into.

Mitch, your new truck is more of a truggy than a full tuber. If it were my call, I'd let you run it without a roof.

I have the same question about the bruiser....1/4 square stock frame and 30 feet of tubes wrapped around it :)Currantly no roof panels and I would prefer to keep it that way.

well with this in mind and a few guys wondering...how much of a roof panel would you have to have?....i mean not to say it this way but theres no measurements for a roof panel in the rules..so a small strip enuf to mount fog lights too?..what about a bikini top as a roof panel..least then these guys have a roof panel but still has that stock feel to it

thanx ryan for posting up some details

I'd say that a roof panel has to cover the whole cackpit/seating area.

edit: Great, it won't let me say the name of a male rooster, nice f-ing program.....
